I must admit I really wondered what was being sung when the South African anthem was played.
It is perhaps a little complicated but that was a complete hash.
As this was followed by a rather superb rendering of La Marseillaise by the French, in line perhaps with President Sarkozy’s doctrine of national pride, it made the whole episode laughably disgraceful.
It should not have left the South Africans perturbed though. They should have attacked with pitiless vigour. A most uninspiring side

South Africa's rugby team has accused France of "disrespecting" their country's national anthem at the start of Friday's test match in Toulouse.
The vice-captain of the Springboks called the rendition a "joke" after the singer forgot some of the lyrics and struggled to hit the high notes.
